FAQ for Pull Rope Switches

Find answers to frequently asked questions regarding our Pull Rope Switches.

Please select the category at the link below:

General

Q.

Can pull rope switches be used as safety switches for mechanical equipment by installing the rope around the equipment?

A.

Yes.

Bends in the pull rope create resistance, which may prevent reliable switch activation in an emergency. Therefore, the routing should be designed to minimize resistance.

Using eye bolts at corners increases resistance; pulleys are recommended instead.

With standard pulleys, limit the rope to a maximum of two bending points and a total length of 25 m per rope.

If more bending points are required, our swivel pulleys allow up to four bending points per rope.

Q.

What is the lowest ambient operating temperature?

The product is intended for use on conveyors or stacker-reclaimers in extremely cold areas.

A.

We have reference installations operating at temperatures down to −30°C.

However, the allowable operating temperature depends on the model specifications as well as the site conditions, so please contact us to confirm suitability for your application.

Q.

Is any moisture-proof or humidity-resistant option available?

The product will be used in a humid environment.

A.

Yes.

The maximum allowable humidity for the standard model is 85% RH.

For environments exceeding 85% RH, we can offer a moisture-proof microswitch option rated up to 95% RH.

However, please contact us in such cases, as the option specifications may vary depending on the conditions.

Pull Cord Switch

Q.

How many Pull Cord Switches are required for a single belt conveyor?

A.

One Pull Cord Switch (ELAW Series) can cover up to 50 m by installing 25 m of wire rope on each side.

For example, for a conveyor length of 200 m, four units are required per side along the conveyor.

This means a total of eight units are required for both sides.

It is recommended to install rope supports at intervals of 1 m.
